At the age of 17, I was invited to a small Baptist church in my hometown by a friend of my mother’s. Unknown to me, that would be the day that not only changed my eternal destination but also the course of my life. That morning, the pastor preached a message regarding Jesus Christ dying for sinners and that eternal life was offered as a free gift to all who would receive Christ by faith, apart from any good works, baptism, or religious deeds. The rejection of this free gift would result in eternity in hell. I quickly realized my need for a Saviour and that I did not want to spend eternity in hell. During an invitation time to come and receive Christ, I went forward and was led to a Sunday school classroom where I was guided through the Scriptures and trusted Christ as my saviour.
